I get the chance to be a co-host of catalystbackstage.com this week in Atlanta. I’m joining up with John Acuff, Shauna Niequist and Carlos Whittaker to bring you live interviews with the Speakers and all kinds of behind the scenes stuff at Catalyst this week. This is a little real time conference resource for all of your that couldn’t make it. There’s also rumor that they’ll be streaming a couple of the main sessions. Tune in starting Wednesday starting at 12pm (EST) as we get started and follow along with us through the end of Friday.
Anybody actually going to be at Catalyst this week?

I’m so proud of my wife, Promise Tangeman-Wurzell! She’s got creativity oozing out of her pores and I love to see how God is using her to inspire others. In just a couple of weeks we’ll be hitting the road with our great friends from ShowIt who have invited Promise to be one of the speakers on their National Tour. The tour is primarily geared for people in the Photography industry and will feature 3 influential industry leaders at each location.
Also, the AMAZING Molly Jenson will be along on the tour bringing her awesome music to each of the cities. If you don’t know Molly…get to know her. She’s got the voice of sweet honey on cornbread! You’ll know her beautiful female voice as she’s the featured vocalist on almost all of Jon Foreman‘s (switchfoot) solo EP’s. She’s a legend.
We’re so thankful for great friends in the photography industry and for people that believe in Promise so much. Promise is speaking in 4 of the cities on the tour and it is coming SOON! If you want to come out or know someone in one of the cities below, tell them to get a ticket soon! Space is limited in each of the cities, but, we’d love to see good friends along the way, so get your tickets. CLICK HERE TO PURCHASE TICKETS!!
Here are the cities Promise and I will be in on the tour:
Phoenix, AZ – June 21
Austin, TX – June 23
Atlanta, GA – June 25
Washington DC – June 28

Okay, I’ve got to share some pretty awesome news with you guys! I was recently asked by Cynthia Ware from the Center for Church Communications to be a part of a small group of creative individuals across the country to help support and promote ministry comm professionals. I am excited about this opportunity to help those who are spreading the gospel through creative means. Seriously incase you didn’t know, the CFCC is behind many great projects (the most popular being the Church Marketing Sucks blog).
The group so far is made up of some down right amazing, creative, and passionate individuals. I’m truly humbled and honored to be serving with all of these great people:
- Greg Atkinson (Dallas, TX)
- Tiffani Barnes (Nashville, TN)
- Shelley Chesney (Santa Barbara, CA)
- Nathan Davis (Oklahoma City, OK)
- Danielle Hartland (Erie, PA)
- Rich Kirkpatrick (Temecula, CA)
- Craig Littlejohn (San Jose, CA)
- Vince Marotte (Austin, TX)
- Crystal Renaud (Kansas City, KS)
- John Saddington (Atlanta, GA)
- Tim Schraeder (Chicago, IL)
- Ryan Spilhaus (McLean, VA)
- Vin Thomas (Portland, OR)
- Camron Ware (Dallas, TX)
- Heather Whittaker (Atlanta, GA)
- Matt Knisely (Lawton, OK)
- Benji Zimmerman (Las Vegas, NV)
If you’re in church communications and I don’t know you, please leave a comment or email me. I would love to connect and see how I can help support and promote what you’re doing.
*thanks to Matt Knisely for a well written blog post 🙂

Announcement – Part 2 – Catalyst (could look something like this, but, totally different)
I’m excited to announce that I have been invited to join the team at Catalyst Westcoast. I’ve been asked to host, what they are calling, the ‘Catalyst Green Room’.
My role for the conference will be to have a presence in the ‘Green Room’ in the effort to bring the Catalyst Westcoast experience to the world via the web. I’ll be interviewing and interacting with a good chunk of the ‘key note’ speakers/leaders, Hillsong United and many other leaders that will be in the room in those days. It sure poses some exciting possibilities. If you watched Anne Jackson last year at Catalyst in ATL, she hosted a deal called ‘Backstage’ and it will have remnants of that idea, however, the web engine being put together for what we are doing is going to be improved and AWESOME!
My question for you is simply this…if you could sit down with some of the guys that are speaking/leading at Catalyst (Andy Stanley, Francis Chan, Guy Kawasaki, Brian Houston, Hillsong United, etc…) what would be the one or two things you would ask those leaders? The fun part is that I may ask your questions to these leaders. I want to get a running list of questions for these leaders that you want to know. Leave a comment with what you would ask these people!
Pretty exciting opportunity and I’m humbled to link arms with this amazing organization, called Catalyst, as they lead one of the most prolific conferences of the year! Many thanks to LV Hanson, Aaron Foster and Ben Arment over at Catalyst for seeing something in a scruffy guy like me. It will be a great few days! More to come as we get closer to the event!

If you’re a Worship Leader or Worship type person I have a question for you. I really could use your input.
I’m in the process of dreaming alongside some people about a potential worship conference. It’s in the works and let me just say, IF THIS HAPPENS YOU WON’T WANT TO MISS IT! Here’s the deal though, I desperately want your input on what would make a conference worth your time and what areas you would like to hear more about from Worship Leaders that you respect?
The questions to answer are the following:
1. What are subject matters and topics that would help you in your quest to be a better leader, pastor, songwriter, musician, etc…
2. Are there certain things that you feel like aren’t addressed at ‘other’ conferences that you wish some conference would speak too?
3. What would be a MAJOR reason that you would do ‘whatever it took’ to make sure you got to be at a conference as it relates to worship?
4. What’s the max you would pay for a 3-4 day conference?
5. How many people from your staff or team would you bring with you if it had the components you were looking to grow in?
Help me out…we really want your input and there are some REALLY great things in the talks right now. More later as things develop. Don’t forget to answer the questions. If you want just copy and paste the questions into a ‘comment’ box and answer right underneath each question. Thanks in advance for your input!
