I’m in the process right now of trying to figure out how to get a group of my team here in AZ out to this event. The pricing through my code ‘BLOGGERBRIAN’ is really great. The airfare on Southwest Airlines from most cities to Albuquerque is pretty reasonable. Please be sure to use the Registration Form below to register and I would register ASAP. Leave a comment and let me know if you’re going to be there too!
Earlier today I had the chance to team up with Ryan Axtell to really dive into the nuts and bolts of the evolution of the Acoustic Guitar for the Worship Leader. In this video, Ryan uncovers a new discovery of ours that we think could shape the culture of equipment for Worship Leaders, internationally. Have a listen and let me know your thoughts! This will also be featured on our Cornerstone Worship Arts Blog.
I’ve met a lot of people in my young life, but, yesterday I met a fellow that will not soon be forgotten. I mean the guy told me to grab his goatee, he’s a good man. Charlie Hall is a Singer/Songwriter/Worship Leader/Pastor and now a friend. We had the chance to hang for a few hours yesterday as he and my friend Phil Wickham are on tour together and the tour stopped here at Cornerstone.
Charlie is one of those guys that lives like I hope I live. He lives in the midst of his story, believing God, believing the scripture, making his declaration through the art of song and doing everything with Christ in him to live it out. A couple things really stood out to me from what I observed in my time with Charlie and I’d love to share them with you.
As a Worship Leader, I have a deep amount of respect for him. Charlie has been on the scene as a writer and leader for a good while now. I can remember hearing the Passion ’99 album for the first time and hearing him lead ‘Better is One Day’ and ‘You’re Worthy of My Praise’ with the Female vocalists and all. Ten years later his lyrics and style continue to be a transcendant piece of beautiful art through music.
Ultimately, now having had the chance to get to know Charlie, I see a man that has dealt and is dealing with real life face to face. Charlie is a man that declares the truth of the songs God has given him to serve as a medium to help free people, but, they’re also the songs to remind him that he’s free. I appreciate the way he draws people in who don’t normally feel invited in and reminds us all that we’re broken people in need of redemption.
Much more to say, but, for your own good, go download some of his music. His newest offering is called ‘The Bright Sadness’. Check it out!
Announcement – Part 2 – Catalyst (could look something like this, but, totally different)
I’m excited to announce that I have been invited to join the team at Catalyst Westcoast. I’ve been asked to host, what they are calling, the ‘Catalyst Green Room’.
My role for the conference will be to have a presence in the ‘Green Room’ in the effort to bring the Catalyst Westcoast experience to the world via the web. I’ll be interviewing and interacting with a good chunk of the ‘key note’ speakers/leaders, Hillsong United and many other leaders that will be in the room in those days. It sure poses some exciting possibilities. If you watched Anne Jackson last year at Catalyst in ATL, she hosted a deal called ‘Backstage’ and it will have remnants of that idea, however, the web engine being put together for what we are doing is going to be improved and AWESOME!
My question for you is simply this…if you could sit down with some of the guys that are speaking/leading at Catalyst (Andy Stanley, Francis Chan, Guy Kawasaki, Brian Houston, Hillsong United, etc…) what would be the one or two things you would ask those leaders? The fun part is that I may ask your questions to these leaders. I want to get a running list of questions for these leaders that you want to know. Leave a comment with what you would ask these people!
Pretty exciting opportunity and I’m humbled to link arms with this amazing organization, called Catalyst, as they lead one of the most prolific conferences of the year! Many thanks to LV Hanson, Aaron Foster and Ben Arment over at Catalyst for seeing something in a scruffy guy like me. It will be a great few days! More to come as we get closer to the event!
I’ve got two exciting things to announce about Catalyst West Conference that is coming to Newport Beach, CA on Aprill 22-24th, 2009. I’m not gonna share both of them in this post, however, you do get one of the pieces of news. The first bit is kind of fun and if you’re still undecided about going maybe it will motivate you to commit. The line up for this conference is absolutely ridiculous. You will be learning and drinking in from some of the most prolific Kingdom-minded leaders in the world during these days in April. Check out their website. Line up includes:
Worship by Hillsong United, Steve Fee, Aaron Keyes and Joel Auge
Speakers include: Andy Stanley, Craig Groeschel, Rick Warren, Guy Kawasaki, Ravi Zacharias, Francis Chan, Brian Houston, Erwin McManus, Perry Noble, Catherine Rohr, Jud Wilhite, and Luis Palau
ANNOUNCEMENT – PART I
I’ve been given the ability to help you and your team get SPECIAL PRICING on the conference if you reference my name and blog. You have to contact Aaron Foster who is leading the charge on the sales end at Catalyst to get the deal. All you need to do is mention that ‘Brian Wurzell said you’d hook us up’ and he will give you a price that I cannot print. 🙂 You can contact him at firstname.lastname@example.org or on his direct line 678-225-3501. TELL YOUR FRIENDS TOO!
Bring your team, sleep on a family members floor, if you have too, take a day or two off work, but, don’t miss this epic leadership summit. Aaron will take care of you if you call him soon, but, they’re almost sold out so I would try and call him this week to make sure you don’t get left out.
If you’re a Worship Leader or Worship type person I have a question for you. I really could use your input.
I’m in the process of dreaming alongside some people about a potential worship conference. It’s in the works and let me just say, IF THIS HAPPENS YOU WON’T WANT TO MISS IT! Here’s the deal though, I desperately want your input on what would make a conference worth your time and what areas you would like to hear more about from Worship Leaders that you respect?
The questions to answer are the following:
1. What are subject matters and topics that would help you in your quest to be a better leader, pastor, songwriter, musician, etc…
2. Are there certain things that you feel like aren’t addressed at ‘other’ conferences that you wish some conference would speak too?
3. What would be a MAJOR reason that you would do ‘whatever it took’ to make sure you got to be at a conference as it relates to worship?
4. What’s the max you would pay for a 3-4 day conference?
5. How many people from your staff or team would you bring with you if it had the components you were looking to grow in?
Help me out…we really want your input and there are some REALLY great things in the talks right now. More later as things develop. Don’t forget to answer the questions. If you want just copy and paste the questions into a ‘comment’ box and answer right underneath each question. Thanks in advance for your input!
I had the chance to hang with LV Hanson who is treading the trail on the grassroots relational campaign for Catalyst Conferences. LV came and sat in on our staff meeting Tuesday morning and it was just a blast to have him in their seeing what’s happening at Cornerstone, worshipping with us, praying with us and for us and talking to the team about what Catalyst is doing.
Last night, LV and I met up for some sushi at RA in Mesa, AZ and had an EPIC time just chatting like old friends. Cool things are happening at Catalyst and if you have the chance to meet LV at some point on the rest of the Road Trip between now and April 2009, DO IT! Below is a video that we shot briefly about Catalyst and a bit of our time together.
