Sunday Special…

This last weekend had some special love on it. I don’t know if it had to with the prayer that has been going on before, after or during the gatherings or God is just simply moving in the lives of people that are coming. Either way, it was a great Sunday. I blogged about one of the songs we did which was a hymn called ‘Holy God’. It’s an incredible hymn and I think you should check out the blog post about it.

We also did the Chorus and Bridge of another new Matt Maher tune called Christ Has Risen. It was an amazing night of prayer and song. Here’s a couple videos from the day. Beware, the audio came off of the Front of House mix…so the recording quality isn’t Grammy level. 🙂 At least it will give you an idea of what we did though and it’s been a while since I’ve posted me leading. Let me know what you thought about the songs. Enjoy!

A Spring Sunday @ Cornerstone – Worship/Audrey Assad

From time to time I want to post some of the music that we’re doing at Cornerstone. I know, for me, since Jarrett Stevens canned 7:22 @ North Point (only kidding jarrett), I’ve been hard pressed to find music online that we (as a team) can go and get creative ideas from week to week. Anyways, yesterday was a special day here at Cornerstone. A really good friend of mine from Nashville name Audrey Assad was here and helped lead music in our gatherings all day. These are a few of the videos from yesterday.

This first video is a new tune Audrey wrote called ‘Love is Moving’. WOW! If you don’t watch anything else on this post…watch and listen to Audrey’s song. Hopefully some of these videos will serve as a resource to inspire and encourage your ministry or life.

A Gift, A Miracle…

ash-wednesday

DISCLAIMER…there is a video at the bottom of this post that YOU HAVE TO WATCH. This post is a good read too!!

Today is Ash Wednesday and it’s been a great day so far. It’s been a full day of reflection, discussion and conversation about this mysterious God that I’ve put my life towards (ash on head and all!). It started by going to Ash Wednesday Mass at my dear friends Parish called Mt. Carmel in Tempe. The homily was confronting. The priest talked about how we are so afraid to be alone. He called us ‘cell phone junkies’ and called us out on the reality of how desperately afraid our culture is of being alone, even those of us in Christ. We don’t know how, we’re scared to, we’re resistant to, we’re afraid of and we fill our lives with so many things that keep us connected to people so that we won’t have to be alone. Introvert or Extrovert we all have ‘things’ that we do that keep even our minds occupied. I was confronted by the Holy Spirit in time of reflection, during church this morning, to prioritize more time to just soak in His presence and commune with Jesus. Is this just me or are you with me on this one?

My fast for lent is going to be from soda/coffee drinks. My resolve is that I will drink water only for 40 days. I’m excited about it because I actually will have to choose water in my day multiple times and it’s in those times that I just want to remember who is my true drink. Jesus. He’s the one I’m after and He’s the one I’m staking it all on! I want to know Him more and I’m thankful for a season of fasting that will lend itself to the gift of knowing Jesus more intimately. I’m amped to have an opportunity, throughout the rhythm of my day, to willingly choose something that will serve as a reminder of Jesus sacrifice for me, for us and for humanity. Thanks be to God (as they say in the Catholic Mass).

I returned back to our church campus here at Cornerstone just to run into beautiful tears. Our amazing Kenyan sister, Caroline, is living here in Chandler, AZ with our Pastor and his wife as she pursues her Masters degree at Arizona State University. What’s never been said very loudly is that Linn and Lisa Winters (our pastor and his wife) live one of the most generous lifestyles that I know. I could make a list of 10+ people (including myself) that they’ve take into there home in times of need and just to be a blessing. Caroline is next on that list of people that they have been gracious to as she lives with them now and for the past 4 weeks Linn and Lisa have been ‘just figuring it out’ with their 2 cars to make sure Caroline has transportation to get to ASU. Relentless giving. Very cool!

That being said, I came back to the church this morning and Caroline came in gasping for breath, filled with tears and, honestly, I couldn’t tell if something bad had happened or what. She then went on to explain what I then made her sit down with me to video record this very special day and what it means to her. So sit back for a minute and listen to this beautiful woman as she talks about a faithful God and tells a story of unique and profound blessing. PRAISE BE TO GOD!! Music courtesy of Robbie Seay Band – Hallelujah, God is Near and Matt Maher – Unwavering.

I’m curious…what would you be willing to give up during Lent?

Alternate Arrangements…

While sitting in ‘Sweet Tomatoes’ with Ryan, Jason, Matt Maher and Kenny Butler, earlier this week, the dialogue was started about songs we think could work acousticly. We then talked about songs that really maybe couldn’t be changed from their original format. We all had a few thoughts and then the legendary Matt Maher (if you don’t know who Matt is…he wrote the song ‘Your Grace is Enough’…no Chris Tomlin didn’t write that…the genius Matt Maher did…give him credit!) just mentioned that the Hillsong United tune ‘Break Free’ was one of those songs.

Well, later in the week we just could not refuse the chance to prove Matt Maher wrong. So we did and here’s what we came up with for it. Also, don’t forget to watch the bonus video of the acoustic version of ‘Your Grace is Enough’. I’ll just say in advance, you won’t be able to ‘get enough’ of this goodness. Let me know what you thought…leave a comment! 🙂

FOR ONE OF MATT’S BRIGHTER MOMENTS:

ROBBIE SEAY | MATT MAHER | CHRIS SEAY – THIS THURSDAY!!

FOR MY ARIZONA FRIENDS – This was a SUPER last minute thing, but, The Robbie Seay Band contacted me and wanted to throw a last minute date together for Arizona. They’ve been out doing this fun tour for a while now and didn’t plan to be in Arizona, but, it just worked out.

All that to say…this is going to be wide open to the Cornerstone family and ANYONE else in the Phoenix area. Our Camber Ministry is hosting this night of worship with the Robbie Seay Band, the Matt Maher band and Author/Pastor/Communicator Chris Seay.

If you don’t think you know who these guys are..well…that may be true at a first thought, but, Robbie has a song on the radio called ‘Song of Hope’ and these are the lyrics just to refresh your brains:

I will sing a song of hope
Sing along
God of heaven come down
Heaven come down
Just to know that You are near is enough
God of heaven come down, heaven come down

Also, my DEAR friend Matt Maher will be opening the night in worship as well. Matt wrote the song ‘Your Grace is Enough’ that Chris Tomlin, initially, made famous (although Matt’s version is playing LOTS on the radio right now). Let me just say that he is such a good friend and mentor to me and if you want to be blessed, figure out a way to be at Cornerstone this Thursday night at 7pm in the Student Center.

The night is $10 bucks at the door!

Arise 2008…

i’ve had the privilege of journeying alongside of some amazing people for the last few years and some in particular stand out. i’ve been connected with a guy named Matt Maher (many of you will know his song, ‘Your Grace is Enough’ thanks to Chris Tomlin). anyways…i’ve had the chance to get to know Matt over the past couple years and he’s introduced me to many of his close friends in the last year and they’ve become some of my new and dearest friends.

All that to say, Matt had kind of primed the pump with a group that he’s very connected with called Youth Arise and said ‘we need to get this guy to come out to our next conference’. so his buddy Tam fired me up in the winter of 2007 and asked if i’d be interested in coming to be a part of a conference they put on called ‘Arise’. i went as a Community Group Leader in 2007 and it was a fantastic experience!

I was invited back to lead again for the 2008 conference and it was just a blast. i’ve been learning so much about community, church history, worship, music and my part in being a stream for ecumenism (maybe this is worth a good blog at some point later).

My time with these guys back in May 2008 was, nevertheless, amazing! i just wanted to share some pictures from the conference. these guys are some of the most committed Followers of Jesus and when the pray, my gosh, when they pray!!!!

This is Ike Indolo, me and Matt Maher (where’s TAM LE?).

leading some song…

what key? oh yeah, A? capo 2 in G…cool, yeah i got it! 🙂 (inside joke for worship leaders)

Obviously, i’m somewhere else right now…believing it with all my heart. sometimes it’s nice not to have to be out in front leading, but, to be on the stage with great dudes who can bring it heavy!

this is where beauty comes from. my community group just praying over me and my ministry. it was a very cool weekend to spend with them. an amazing group of people sold out on praying for one another and taking their journey with Jesus forward in a communal/missional way.

let me just say that the most amazing part in all of this is that i’m hanging out with a bunch of CATHOLICS!! we’re having great dialogues, awesome prayer times, phenomenal dreams and learning a ton from each other! hahaha…there is a movement happening in the Catholic Church and particularly in some of the Parishes that really is phenomenal. i’m grateful to be the ‘token proddy (protestant)’ as they call me amongst this particlar group of them. it’s been an incredible journey so far and let me just say we’re merely at the beginning my Catholic brotha’s and sista’s!

If you don’t have Matt Maher’s stuff you need to get your hands on it. he’s got a new record out called “empty and beautiful’ and i tell every Worship Leader that they MUST own his record called ‘overflow’.

Also, you need to be sure to check out his shirts, design, etc… The love of my life, Promise Tangeman, does all of the Matt Maher Bands Design. You can peek at some of her designs on her Flickr. also, check out her blog too…we’re both on this blog thing together.
