I just wanted to take a second to remind you how blessed I am to have Ryan & Danielle Axtell as friends of mine. I’ve been so honored to have been able to walk alongside Ryan during these past months as God has given and taken away with the loss of their first child. Ryan has never ceased to amaze me with his capacity to follow Jesus into ‘This Valley’. He has been relentless to dig in to find out how God could use this tragedy for His glory. Ryan and Danielle have traversed this trial with honor, integrity, humility, authenticity and yet anchored in the hope we have in Jesus. I only hope I can do my ‘valley’ with that level of respect and honor!
That being said, I could think of no greater thing than for all of us to come out Thursday night, April 15th 2010, to support Ryan and Danielle with the release of ‘This Valley’ his brand new CD. Out of ‘This Valley’ birthed songs rooted in the word and telling the God story in their lives. Ryan has worked vigorously on this project and the album sounds AWESOME!! The release is tomorrow night at 7pm in the auditorium at Cornerstone Chandler. Nyke our Camber Pastor will be interviewing Ryan about the still birth of their first child and all that has come with this hard season for he and Danielle. It will be a powerful time to share in music, story and community. Bring your family and friends to come enjoy this night!
If you can’t make it out to Arizona for the show, but, want to purchase his new Album CLICK HERE!!
My amazing Promise designed all the artwork for Ryan. I think she did a KILLER job and, yes, I am totally biased! 🙂

I’ve recently come to love a song called Your Love Never Fails. It’s such a solid reminder of what the Bible proclaims to us about Gods love. These are some of they lyrics I’m just loving to lead right now. You can catch a great version of this song on Jesus Cultures worship album called Your Love Never Fails.
This video has a sweet little part in it from this past weekend. I got in a pinch over the weekend and called in a favor from an old friend to come play guitar. My friend Mike Eldred is a blues king and can shred him some leads. He’s also the Director of Custom Guitars at Fender, small fish. HA. This past weekend was no exception to his shredding and at the 3rd service during Your Love Never Fails I couldn’t hold back the WOW. HAHA. The guy can just shred and we got lost in it for a minute. We’ve got some AMAZING players here at Cornerstone and they bring exactly what we need every week, but Mike just has this Blues shredding capacity that we really don’t use week to week. So…enjoy his serious shredding and this awesome tune.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the song too!!! Have you heard this tune? Do you like it? Not?

I think this would be my first ‘note-worthy’ publication and I’m excited to tell you about it. I was recently asked to write a piece for Neue Resources which is a branch of Relevant Magazine. I was asked to write about why we sing the songs we sing and the importance of such things. Anyways, I’d love for you to read it and hopefully you’ll catch a small glimpse into my small brain on what I think is important as it relates to the songs we sing.
This is a read for everyone, but especially Worship Leaders.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on what you read too! Hopefully you’ll enjoy! CLICK HERE TO READ THE ARTICLE (if it’s to small to read click the page and it will ZOOM in for ya).

One of the highlights of 2009 was the chance to get to know Charlie Hall. I wrote about it after my time with him back in April 2009.
I’m reminded of the beautiful lyrics he penned called ‘New Year’. It’s a song of recognizing the pain of our past, yet, pointing towards the hope and light that is found only in Jesus for our future. It’s a powerful song of redemption and restoration! It’s a song that deals with failure and hope. Dark and light. It’s a song that roots itself in the power of what God can do in our lives. This is a New Year…so RISE, SHINE and point the way to GOD’s great light. It is my prayer over my life and over yours for 2010! May we point the way for MANY this year to the great light and life that is found in Christ.
I’d love for you to leave a link to your ‘Year in Review’ here on my blog. I wanna read what happened in your life in 2009 and what you’re hopeful towards in 2010. Drop a link!
New Year by Charlie Hall
My heart beats like a drum, flying up with the sun as I grab your hand again!
Renovated with life, my eyes again bright. You are radiant!
Where hope can hold my hand in sorrow and we can walk in tomorrow
Where peace is found in troubled days and the joy of Jesus carries pain
This is a new year. This is a new day to rise, shine and lift up your eyes.
This is a new year. This is a new day to rise, shine and point the way to Gods great life.
I’m held in this place, this beautiful space where heaven meets the earth.
My heart opens wide and the Father pours life deep inside my soul.

My friend, Andy Barron, who works with Switchfoot shot me a link today. I have to say that Promise and I haven’t laughed that hard in a while. It’s a video like this that makes me hope that one day I’ll have a little girl that’s cool, personable and loves her some music. If you haven’t heard Switchfoot‘s new record called ‘Hello Hurricane’, well, do yourself a favor and quit missing out.
The first video is of the Switchfoot music video and Andy Barron did a bunch of the footage for the video. You’ve got to watch the real music video first so that you have context. Once you’ve finished watching the real music video make sure to watch this little 6 year old girl, Kadyn, totally bring the heat on the song. SO AWESOME!!! I’d love to hear your comments too!

This last weekend had some special love on it. I don’t know if it had to with the prayer that has been going on before, after or during the gatherings or God is just simply moving in the lives of people that are coming. Either way, it was a great Sunday. I blogged about one of the songs we did which was a hymn called ‘Holy God’. It’s an incredible hymn and I think you should check out the blog post about it.
We also did the Chorus and Bridge of another new Matt Maher tune called Christ Has Risen. It was an amazing night of prayer and song. Here’s a couple videos from the day. Beware, the audio came off of the Front of House mix…so the recording quality isn’t Grammy level. 🙂 At least it will give you an idea of what we did though and it’s been a while since I’ve posted me leading. Let me know what you thought about the songs. Enjoy!

These videos are amazing, they simply remind me that kids have unmeasurable talent that, if tapped into, can be unleashed as beautiful expressions of their unique abilities. Seriously, if I ever have kids and they want to learn music this is the way I want them to learn. There’s, obviously, a time when these kids get serious with their instructors and learn, but, the end result is expressed in enjoyment and fun! This is how I learn and I think the idea of learning could be a way more positive experience if we let people express themselves a bit more. What could be more fun then learning all the pop-hits and doing it with all your friends.
My friend, Stephanie, showed this link to me and it’s awesome. These kids are called the PS22 Chorus and I’m pretty sure you could watch most of their videos and be pretty impressed. I’ll share a few with you here:
A couple questions for you…What are you doing to learn and have fun at the same time? What did you think about these videos, the approach, the fun, etc…?

Earlier today I had the chance to team up with Ryan Axtell to really dive into the nuts and bolts of the evolution of the Acoustic Guitar for the Worship Leader. In this video, Ryan uncovers a new discovery of ours that we think could shape the culture of equipment for Worship Leaders, internationally. Have a listen and let me know your thoughts! This will also be featured on our Cornerstone Worship Arts Blog.
