A Year of Reflection :: 1 Year Anniversary

Today, a year ago, began the most important day of my life (next to deciding to follow Jesus). It was a warm, sunny, exciting and holy day. It was a day of covenant, love, family, good food, an amazing day, lots of friends and a new beginning for me and my new wife, Promise. As I reflect back on our wedding day all I can think about is how much God is absolutely in love with us.

Promise, you are my best friend and this year has been confirmed that in every way. You’re the best listener, coach, homemaker (it’s true), artist and follower of Jesus that I know. You are an amazing lover and I couldn’t ask for anything more. I love the way you hug and kiss me. I love the way you talk to me, encourage me and show me your love. I love the way you love me in every way.

Some of my greatest memories of this year are getting to travel ALL over with you. Making a home together. Watching you launch out on your own as a freelance artist. Praying with you, like we’ve never prayed before. Learning what we’re good at and not good at around the house. Serving in Kenya and seeing your art come alive with those kids. I like making coffee with you in the mornings and settling in with you at night. I love how much you love breakfast. I’ve loved enjoying weddings, holidays and trips with our families this year. Crying with you, holding you and hoping with you for all kinds of different things. It has been so good already!

I can’t believe a whole YEAR has passed and how much better I am because of it. Because of you. God is truly good!

I don’t think I’ve ever told you this, but, my original plan was to ask you to marry me in San Francisco. I wanted to have you go on a wild scavenger hunt for clues that eventually led you to a plane ride to meet me in San Francisco to ask you to marry me! Instead, we had a memorable desert engagement and I think it worked out just fine! 🙂 I just wanted you to know that even though it’s not the warm tropic beach to celebrate our 1 year, it holds a memory for me and now for us. What an amazing weekend I have had with you here in San Francisco. We have some GREAT memories already and I can’t wait to make many more.

Now if only I can love you more intently and show you Christ in me this year in new ways. Wow, that would be my desire. I love with you with all my heart and I can’t believe I got such an incredibly beautiful woman to call my wife. You are absolutely stunning and make any picture we’re both in worth looking at…WOW-EE!!!

I love you with all my heart and am looking forward to all that God has in store for us, my sweet love.

Happy Anniversary to you, Promise Tangeman-Wurzell. You are the one I waited for and it was worth the wait!

Hair Can Change Everything…

Well…my friends…THIS is before:

And this would be the results of Kim Cornwell hard at work on my nappy head. HAHA.

THOUGHTS?! The fact that I would ask for THOUGHTS on this subject is kind of funny. Who REALLY cares about my hair, honestly?! hahaha. I like it. It’s a good change. I think the beard is coming back in to action though. I don’t like the stubble so short.

My Wifes Website Was Nominated :: Go Vote

All I can say is that my wife, Promise Tangeman-Wurzell, is cooler than me on EVERY front. I’m really proud of her and I know how hard she works everyday. She’s committed to excellence and to being a person filled with love in all that she does. I think her blog is just a glimpse of who she really is, but it’s an accurate depiction of her love for life, God, art and people. I wanted to invite my readers in to affirming her work with a vote and to connect you to her work if you don’t yet know about it. Either way…Go VOTE for her…do it for me. 🙂

HERE’S WHAT PROMISE WRITES ABOUT THE NOMINATION:

SOOO excited to tell you guys that I was nominated for ‘Show It Best of 2009 Design’ award. If you’ve never heard of ShowIt it’s an amazing creative software company that has created a TON of products that are so helpful for photographers, designers, and really ANYONE. Right now I’m using their product called ShowIt Sites. My website is hosted completely through ShowIt and I got to design EVERYTHING by myself. Great stuff. It is super user friendly.

Anyways, this nomination only turns in to a win through your votes. SOOOOO….if you would be up for it and would be willing to take a minute to vote, well, I would be so grateful!! The nomination was for the category ‘Dig the Design’ for best Web Design. It’s really pretty simple and since YOU ALL are really great at voting on things I’m sure it won’t be a thang!! Might I add that it was this community that voted me the winner for the Collide Magazine ‘Readers Choice Award’. SOO COOL! Thanks so much. You guys are AWESOME!!

Okay, here is how you can help me out and vote:

The voting is all online and through a Facebook voting platform. All you need to do is click link and it will get you started. A couple quick notes, you may have to hit an ‘accept’ button when it asks you if you want to give access to the poll. From there all you need to do is double check that you’re in the ‘Dig the Design’ category, find my site and vote away!

Again thanks sooo much for voting for me and for being such an awesome online community. If I win you all get the credit.

Carlos Whittaker :: EP

Today, my good friend Carlos Whittaker’s EP is available for your download and listening pleasure. Carlos, Heather and their family have quickly become some great friends of mine and Promise. We are so excited for Carlos in this new adventure of taking his music to the streets. He’s got an amazing heart for God and people. I think you’re really going to enjoy this worship project. The songs have singable melodies and remind us of Gods love for us and propel the listener to love God more!

At the end of the day when you meet Lil’ Los (Losiah) you won’t be able to resist dowloading Carlos’ new EP. Knowing he’s training this little guy up to know and follow Jesus…well…it’s worth every dollar of the download! Go get the EP on iTunes or wherever and support this amazing new artist and a friend of mine!

Worship: Why We Sing

We are in a new series here at Cornerstone called 3-2-B which, in essence, is a series that’s sort of pointing our church to simple ways to walk closer to Jesus. The ‘3 to be strong’ are Worship, Grow and Serve. We’re talking about this idea and asking the question, ‘what IF every person in our church took a step forward in this season in each of those areas? What could happen? How much more like Christ could we become if we actually matured in our faith? How much could our maturity influence Kingdom capacity?’

This past weekend we talked to the concept of worship. We talked about this idea that worship is the bowing down of our lives in the obedient effort to give God His rightful place in our lives. His rightful place is first and above everything else. Worship is the broad canvas of our lives and there is nothing in our lives that get excluded. Everything is spiritual and everyone has the ability to worship.

As the Worship Leader at a local church I have to be honest to say that there is nothing more frustrating than how we have compartmentalized the concept of Worship to music. Music is but a fiber of what worship really should be in our lives. True worship is the bowing down of our lives in the every decision of our every day.

If you’re like a lot of people though, you may have had a simple yet unanswered question that may be the following: ‘WHY DO WE SING?’ It seems like singing is a foundational element of what we do in our local churches. I think I’ve got a guy that may be able to give you some insights on this question.

I’ve got an AMAZING friend, mentor and theologian in my life that I want you all to get to know. His name is Dr. John Hubley. The guy is an absolute lover of life, people and the Word of God. He has been responsible for taking me to all new places as it relates to my ‘Biblical Interpretation of Worship’. I’ve done everything I can to get this guy on film to capture his wisdom and legacy.

I recently sat down with John to ask him this burning question, ‘WHY DO WE SING?’.

Where there any new concepts or ideas that you learned about WHY WE SING that came out through this video? Do you like to express your worship in song? Do you dislike expressing your worship in song? What does singing mean to you in light of hearing that singing is close to the heart of God?
